If you hate leaving your best furry friend behind when you do on vacation, then you will be interested in pet friendly lodging. For a pet lover, there is almost nothing harder than leaving your pet at home while you go out of town. Sometimes it isn’t so bad: quick business trips or a weekend visit to a friend who lives out of town are usually fine for your pet, especially if you have a neighbor or a qualified pet sitter stay with your pet or at least look in on him or her a few times while you are away. But what should you do if you are planning on going away for a two week long vacation? Well, depending on where you are visiting, you may be able to take your pet with you on vacation!
Finding pet friendly lodging doesn’t have to be a challenge. Many websites offer listings of pet friendly hotels, bed and breakfasts, inns, motels, and other pet friendly accommodations. Not all hotels offer pet friendly accommodation, so be certain to double check with the hotel’s concierge before making your reservations. Also, certain hotels have special restrictions for pets, so this is something that should be considered as well. Many hotels only allow cats and dogs. Other hotels may allow only small dogs and cats, but not larger breed dogs. Sometimes, a hotel limits the amount of time a pet can be left alone in your hotel room. However, other hotels are very accommodating, even offering doggie or kitty snacks at check in!
Websites that deal with pet friendly lodging often provide lists or search engines to help you find the right hotel in the right city, state, or even country. For example, if you are looking for pet friendly Adirondack lodging in New York, these sites will let you search by state, city or region to find a hotel near your intended destination. If you are looking into pet friendly lodging in Portland, Maine, just look for Portland, Maine and you are sure to find the right hotel.
Keep in mind that just because you are taking your pet with you doesn’t mean that he or she will not suffer any kind of stress. In fact, for some pets, travel can be just as stressful as being left at home alone. Be sure to ask your veterinarian for information about how to travel with your specific pet.
